Musée d’Orsay
Make painting the focus of your museum visit, with Impressionism as one possible thread through Orsay’s collections and former railway station.
Why choose Orsay
Orsay is a strong choice if painting is what draws you to a museum, particularly Impressionism and Post-Impressionism. The former railway station is part of the attraction, giving the building a place in the experience alongside the art.
We suggest choosing a starting point — a movement, an artist or a question you want to explore — and allowing yourself time to follow it. A rewarding visit does not depend on covering every room. If something holds your attention, let the rest of the plan become shorter rather than rushing on.
The trade-off
Choosing Orsay means giving a more focused artistic subject your attention. If what you really want is the Louvre’s ancient collections or palace, this is a different experience. Equally, a first trip to Paris does not oblige you to choose the Louvre if Orsay’s art interests you more.
Before you go
Check the museum’s current entry and booking information. Entrances and access rules can change, including those that apply to your ticket or pass. An artwork belonging to the collection is not a promise that it will be on display during your visit.
